Comments: The U.S. national team had struggled in 1993, but came up with a shocking win over a struggling English side, 2-0, giving the Brits one of their most embarrassing defeats ever. Thomas Dooley scored in the 42nd minute, and Alexi Lalas headed in the second American goal in the 71st minute. This match had been tough to find complete, and in nice shape. This copy is pretty good. Nice audio, no major tape flaws. Just a touch of pixelation from conversion in SP mode. The last postgame segment is cut off early. Several times during the match, Sportschannel left it to show a couple of commercials. So some of the action was never shown. Unfortunately, soccer was shown that way in North America until the 1994 World Cup. Here was the magnitude of the upset: FIFA released their second ever set of rankings in August 1993, two months after this match had been played. England was ranked #11, the United States ranked #28.
