"The Miracle on Montlake" Southern California opened the game with 10 unanswered points, marching down the field at ease. USC was playing without starting quarterback Matt Barkley, who had injured his shoulder the week before at Ohio State. Washington worked its way back into the game with a 4-yard TD run by quarterback Jake Locker, trimming the score to 10-7. Late in the second quarter, placekicker Erik Folk booted a 46-yard field goal to knot the score at 10. As the game entered the 4th quarter both teams swapped FG`s 13-13. Washington took possession with 4 minutes to go when Jake Locker announced himself to a nationwide audience. The quarterback coolly maneuvered his team down the field, converting on two key third downs, including a 3rd-and-15 from his team`s own 28. On that play, Locker slung a throw across the sideline to Jermaine Kearse for 21 yards. The Huskies would eventually drive to the USC 4. A Folk FG and as the final whistle sounded, thousands of fans stormed over the railings, enveloping the field in a sea of purple. |
