The two teams combined for 67 points, nearly 1,000 yards of total offense and a season`s worth of unusual plays. Jake Locker - Chris Polk - Jermaine Kearse - Desmond Trufant. Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate (Tate had nine catches for 244 yards and a touchdown). Washington blows 7 chances to score inside the 10 and takes a FG to go up 27-22 when Clausen took the Irish 67 yards in six plays, hitting Kyle Rudolph for a go-ahead touchdown from 12 yards out with 1:20 remaining. Robert Hughes bulled in for a two-point conversion and 30-27 lead.
Not to be outdone, Locker moved the Huskies 70 yards in nine plays for Folk`s game-tying 37-yard field goal with six seconds left.
In overtime, Clausen found his go-to guy, Golden Tate, for 22 yards on the first possession, setting up Hughes` 1-yard pop for the go-ahead touchdown. The Huskies failed to counter when Notre Dame safety Harrison Smith jarred the ball loose from D`Andre Goodwin with a knockout hit in the shadow of the Irish goal post, preventing a first down on a fourth-and-19 play from the Irish 34. |
