The Celtics took it right to the Lakers, controlling the boards and taking a 55-47 lead into halftime. The Celtics had a balanced scoring attack with Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Danny Ainge, and Dennis Johnson all scoring in double figures. In the 3rd quarter, Bird finally got hot by scoring 12 in the quarter and helping the Celtics lead by as many as 16 points. But Los Angeles fought back to cut the Celtics lead to 85-78 going into the 4th. The Lakers took a 1 point lead with 29 seconds to go. Worthy did everything he could (holding) to keep Bird from the ball but Ainge forced a double team and Bird popped from the corner for a 1 pt lead with 12 seconds to go. Jabbar gets fouled - makes the first and misses the second. Parish and McHale go for the rebound but it goes out of bounds giving the Lakers the ball with 7 seconds remaining. Magic hits the famous running jump hook with 2 seconds remaining. Boston gets the ball at half court and Bird wiggles free in the corner as A hush fell over the entire Boston Garden before the ball loudly clanked off the rim. The Boston crowd let out a collective groan as the Lakers` bench danced off the court to celebrate the hard-fought victory, which gave the Lakers a commanding 3-1 series lead. |
