Announcers are Dick Enberg and Billy Packer. Idaho State shocked the world when they upset national power UCLA, which was their first loss in a regional round since 1963! Then the Kids from Pocatello ran into a juggernaut. In the regional finals Jerry Tarkanian’s Runnin’ Rebels attacked on defense, threw up rainbows and threw down jams on offense, and blew the Bengals out 107-90 with a devastating last 22 minutes in the high altitude of Provo, Utah. Although Tarkanian complained that “the altitude makes us play like 5 slow white guys,” his Rebels roared back from a 48-41 deficit to leave Idaho State gasping. The Rebs were led by Eddie Owens with 24 points and the Bengals by Ed Thompson with 27. |
