Comments: Keith Jackson/Dick Vitale Arizona 103-96 2ot. In a game rife with implications for prime postseason seeding, top 10 teams Arizona and Duke went at each other yesterday with a tenacity and intensity befitting an NCAA tournament. The No. 9 Wildcats got game-tying shots from Sean Rooks and Chris Mills in the fading seconds of regulation and overtime and Matt Muehlebach scored seven points in the second overtime to defeat No. 7 Duke 103-96. ``I think that a game like this gets us ready more than anything, for the NCAA Tournament,`` Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski said. ``It does hurt you a little because the kids get real tired, but the big picture is that we play better if we play against good teams late in the season.`` Arizona (22-5) extended its McKale Center winning streak to 61 games, the nation`s longest. Duke dropped to 23-6. ``I`d sure like to meet the ghost of McKale,`` said Brian Williams, who led Arizona with 24 points. ``He`s definitely got a jinx on somebody.`` ``This was a great game played by two very intense teams,`` Arizona Coach Lute Olson said. ``The effort by Duke is what you expect from a great program. It was our court and we had the advantage.`` But at the end of regulation play, trailing 76-72 with 47 seconds left, Olson thought his team was in trouble. But Williams and Wayne Womack hit consecutive layups, the second with 26 seconds left after a steal by Muehlebach, to tie it. Duke`s Christian Laettner committed a turnover, but was fouled. He made both free throws to put the Blue Devils ahead 78-76 with 12 seconds left. On Arizona`s possession, Matt Othick deflected the ball past Laettner to Rooks, who nailed a spinning layup with 3.8 seconds left. Rooks used similar shots to beat Stanford and UCLA. In the first overtime, Arizona led until Bobby Hurley`s three-pointer with 1:15 left tied it at 86-86, and Grant Hill put Duke ahead 88-86 on two free throws with 29 seconds remaining. Mills, who had a buzzer-beater to force overtime with UCLA, hit a 10-footer with 13 seconds left. He missed a 12-foot jumper as time ran out and the teams went to a second overtime. The Wildcats set a McKale Center record of 51 free throw attempts, breaking their mark of 48 set in 1988, but converted only 30 (59 percent). But Arizona made eight of 10 free throws in the last overtime period. Muehlebach started the scoring with a three-pointer and Arizona never trailed again. Muehlebach converted free throws for a 95-90 lead and Rooks slam-dunked to put the Wildcats up 99-91 with 1:23 to go. Muehlebach added two more free throws with less than 23 seconds left put Arizona up 103-93. The Wildcats shot 53 percent, while holding the Blue Devils to 40.3 percent shooting. Arizona also outrebounded Duke 55-38. Mills had 21 points. Laettner led Duke with 26
