In what would prove to be WKU`s first and only meeting against UAB in football (UAB discontinued football after the 2014 season), the Hilltoppers lost narrowly in a game full of explosive plays. UAB started with a bang, returning the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. Ace Wales had a big day for the Toppers including an 80 yard scoring run.
