Comments: After failing to generate touchdowns, Bill Parcells had finally seen enough of Scott Brunner and decided to go back to Phil Simms who hadn`t played a regular season down since 1981. Simms came in and immediately sparked the team and it looked like he would be the starter from that point on. Not long after being inserted though, disaster struck again. Simms hit a facemask while throwing and nearly had his thumb torn off. He ran to the sidelines in agony and was taken from the field, his hand in a bloody towel. His 1983 season started and ended in just a few minutes. The Giants would go on to lose this game and suffer a three win season, but Simms would eventually take over as the starter once and for all in 1984. Pat Summerall and John Madden have the call.
