Miami 23-21. The last six of Dan Marino’s 393 passing yards were good for the game-winning touchdown on a throw to Mark Duper with 1:07. That score accounted for the game’s fifth lead change, the third of the fourth quarter. With Miami up 16-14 a minute and a half into the fourth quarter the Redskins responded quickly, maybe a bit too quickly. They might have burned off more time, but they were handed 30 yards after Schroeder scrambled for 16 yards. Miami’s Bud Brown was penalized for 15 yards for spearing the Washington quarterback at the end of the play and then got hit with another 15 when he pushed the official while protesting the call. That set up a first down at the Miami 15 and George Rogers scored four plays later. Miami’s game winner came at the end of an 80-yard drive. The Redskins almost had the drive ended when, on second down at the Washington 17, Todd Bowles had a Marino pass in his hands. However, Barry Wilburn was nearby and ran into Bowles, knocking the ball to the ground. Two plays later, Marino went to Duper to give Miami the lead. A desperation 67-yard field goal attempt on the game’s final play was well short. |
