Jim McMahon tossed two touchdown passes and Dennis Gentry added a 58 yard scoring run as the Chicago Bears defeated the Buffalo Bills 24-3 at Soldier Field. The Bears took a 7-0 lead behind a McMahon four yard touchdown pass to Emery Moorehead. Buffalo cut the Bear lead to 7-3 on a 28 yard Scott Norwood field goal. Then it was all Bears. McMahon connected with Ron Morris on a 63 yard touchdown, Kevin Butler added a 22 yard field goal and Gentry scored on a 58 yard run giving Chicago a 24-3 halftime lead. A score that held up after a scoreless second half. The Bear defense held Buffalo to ZERO rushing yards and sacked Jim Kelly six times. McMahon completed 20 of 27 passes for 260 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while Kelly finished 20 of 37 for 273 yards and one interception. The Bears improved to 4-1 while handing the Bills their first loss of the season.
