St. Louis 8th World Series title. Big pitching matchup fell short. Bob Gibson (3-0) historic series! Gibson tied Christy Matthewson (1905) record for the fewest hits allowed in 3 complete World Series games wins. Jim Lonborg wasn`t able to be effective with 2 days rest. Another frustrating end for Boston. It was only the 2nd time on World Series history that both startinh pitchers were 2-0 entering game 7 (1925 Walter Johnson, Washington, Vic Aldridge, Pittsburgh). |
