Joe Montana threw for one touchdown and the 49er ground game rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns as the San Francisco 49ers had little trouble in defeating the Los Angeles Rams 26-10 at Anaheim Stadium. The 49ers jumped out to a 16-0 lead behind a yard run by Tom Rathman, a Montana to Rice 60 yard touchdown pass and a 23 yard field goal by Mike Cofer. Jim Everett threw an eight yard touchdown pass to Derrick Faison to cut the 49er lead to 16-7 at the half. The teams exchanged field goals in the third quarter and in the fourth quarter Dexter Carter scored on a 74 yard run. Montana finished 15 of 30 for 219 yards while Everett was 17 of 35 for 232 yards but threw two interceptions. Carter rushed for a game high 124 yards on 13 carries while Rice led all receivers with five catches and 104 yards receiving. With the win the 49ers improved to 13-1 while the Rams dropped to 5-9. |
