Deion Sanders 74 yard interception return for a touchdown in the final minutes ended the New Orleans threat and gave the San Francisco 49ers a 24-13 victory over the Saints. After the teams exchanged field goals in the first quarter, Steve Young tossed a 28 yard touchdown pass to Jerry Rice giving the 49ers a 10-3 lead. The Saints answered with a Jim Everett 17 yard touchdown pass to Irv Smith. Morten Anderson would add a 26 yard field goal and give the Saints a 13-10 halftime lead. Young connected with Rice in the third quarter on a six yard touchdown, giving the 49ers a 17-13 lead which held up until the final minutes. With the Saints driving, Everett was intercepted by Sanders and he took it 74 yards for the clinching score. Young completed 25 of 39 passes for 247 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions while Everett finished 31 of 55 for 291 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. |
