Comments: Madden and Summerall: Heavyweight battle between two NFC East powerhouses. A huge day for Emmitt Smith who goes well over 150+ Yards against the best defense in football. This is the game where Emmitt really shows that he is TOUGH and a true "workhorse". For fans of Emmitt Smith and The Great Wall of Dallas (OLine) this is a must have for the collection. Troy Aikman threw two touchdown passes and Lin Elliott kicked two field goals as the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 20-10 at Texas Stadium. Aikman finished 19 of 33 passes for 214 yards with one interception. He threw touchdown passes of 22 yards to Kelvin Martin and 14 yards to Daryl Johnston. Emmitt Smith rushed for a game high 163 yards on 30 carries as the Cowboys improved to 7-1. In the first half Dallas allowed just one first down and two net passing yards. Randall Cunningham was benched in favor of Jim McMahon to start the third quarter after going 3 of 8 for 13 yards and an interception. McMahon was 10 of 19 for 122 yards and one interception. Herschel Walker rushed for 44 yards to lead the Eagles and scored their only touchdown, a two yard run. This is a wild and intense game. The Eagles get a nice spark to start the second half when they roll the dice and pull starting QB Randall Cunningham and replace him with the legendary great Jim McMahon who immediately drives them down the field for an opening drive TD. On the ensuing drive Troy Aikman throws an interception to Eagle LB Byron Evans. McMahon proceeds to drive them to the goal line. Where The cowboys engage in a very dramatic goal line stand that includes what looks to be a clear TD by Herschel Walker but the refs somehow miss it (pre-booth reviews) and declare it short even though to everyone`s eyes (including John Madden) Walker clearly crossed the goal line. Instead The Eagles settle for a FG to tie the game @10-10. Emitt Smith explodes on the next drive and the momentum slowly but surely begins to go the Cowboy way. This game includes numerous fights between Eagle WR Calvin Williams and Cowboy CB Isaac Holt. Great NFC East early 1990`s battle on CBS.
