Phil Simms tossed three touchdown passes and Raul Allegre added a field goal as the New York Giants defeated the Washington Redskins 24-14 at RFK Stadium. After a scoreless first quarter, the Giants scored first. Simms tossed a nine yard touchdown pass to Mark Bavaro. The Redskins answered with a four yard scoring run by Kelvin Bryant but the Giants would score again before half. Simms would toss a seven yard touchdown pass to Bobby Johnson. The Giants extended their lead to 24-7 after three quarters. Simms would throw a 16 yard touchdown pass to Phil McConkey and Allegre would kick a 21 yard field goal. In the fourth quarter Jay Schroeder threw a 22 yard touchdown pass to Bryant. Simms completed 15 of 29 passes for 265 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Bavaro led the Giants with five catches for 111 yards. Schroeder finished 28 of 51 for 309 yards with one touchdown and six interceptions. Bryant led the Redskins with 50 yards rushing on six carries and led all receivers with 13 catches for 130 yards. |
