Terry Allen rushed for two touchdowns and Heath Shuler tossed a ten yard touchdown pass to Henry Ellard as the Washington Redskins shocked the Dallas Cowboys 24-17 at Texas Stadium. A seventeen and half point favorite, the Cowboys scored first on an Emmitt Smith seven yard run. Smith rushed 91 yards on 21 carries. The Redskins quickly answered with a two yard scoring run from Allen. After a 37 yard field goal by Chris Boniol gave Dallas a 10-7 halftime lead, the Redskins would score the games next 17 points to take a 24-10 lead. Shuler connected with Ellard, Allen scored from a yard out and Eddie Murray booted a 47 yard field goal. Allen rushed for a game high 98 yards on 25 carries, Shuler was 11 of 24 for 154 yards but with no turnovers. Dallas scored with 1:48 left in the game when Troy Aikman tossed a three yard touchdown pass to Michael Irvin. The onside kick however, was recovered by the Redskins. Aikman finished 29 of 47 for 285 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Irvin led all receivers with ten catches for 101 yards. This marked the first time the Redskins` swept the Cowboys since 1987. |
