Elvis Grbac threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the San Francisco 49ers shocked the Dallas Cowboys 38-20 at Texas Stadium. Grbac threw an 81 yard touchdown pass to Jerry Rice putting the 49ers up 7-0. Merton Hanks returned a Michael Irvin fumble 38 yards for another score and just a few minutes into the game the 49ers were up 14-0. Jeff Wilkins added a 26 yard field goal and Derek Loville scored on a one yard run and the rout was on, 24-0 San Francisco. Emmitt Smith finally put Dallas on the board with a one yard run but Grbac would hit Loville on a 19 yard scoring pass to give the 49ers a 31-7 halftime lead. To make matters worse, Troy Aikman was lost to a bruised right knee. Chris Boniol would kick two field goals in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 18 points. In the fourth quarter Grbac would score on a one yard run before Jason Garrett would throw an eight yard touchdown pass to Irvin. Grbac finished 20 of 30 for 305 yards with the two touchdowns. Rice would lead all receivers with 161 yards on five catches. Wade Wilson played most of the day at quarterback for the Cowboys and he was 15 of 26 for 134 yards with two picks. |
