Washington 27-17. The Redskins ran up a 21-0 lead in the second quarter and managed to hold the Giants at arm’s length during the second half. Washington took the opening kickoff and demonstrated no ill effects of the nine-week layoff that had just concluded with the settling of the player’s strike. They drove 73 yards to a touchdown after getting the opening kickoff, the score coming on a one-yard flip from Joe Theismann to fullback Otis Wonsley. After a Charley Brown TD catch and a John Riggins run it was 21-0. The Giants got within a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the Redskins held them at bay. |
