Follows the career as a player and then later manager, Gil Hodges. Chronicles the contributions of the quiet catcher and first baseman to the great Brooklyn Dodgers of the late `40s and `50s before finishing in Los Angeles. Following his playing career, Hodges transitions into managing first with the Washington Senators and then later with the New York Mets where Gil Hodges guides the Mets to their Miracle championship in 1969, his 2nd season with the team.
